About Course

Course Description

This course explores the literary, historical, and theological dimensions of Luke’s second volume: The Acts of the Apostles. The study provides a forum for reading Luke’s account of the
emergence of the nascent Christ-believing community within its Jewish and Greco-Roman context. The study will also consider how the book of Acts informs the beliefs and practices of the
contemporary church.

Course Objectives

  1. Study the Acts of the Apostles as a narrative of the unfolding of Jesus’ Great Commission
  2. Examine Luke’s underlying purpose/s, structure, and recurring theological themes
  3. Critically assess how the opposition to the Gospel and persecution of believers normally follows ministry,
  4. Develop appropriate methods or models for evangelism and local church mission within hostile societies
