About Course

Course Objectives:

This course focuses on the theory and practice of liturgical preaching. The class will be centered on the practice of preaching by the students, as well as the skills of listening and offering constructive criticism for the benefit of all participants. In addition, there will be reading and discussion on various models of homily preparation, the various texts in any community which contribute to contextualized preaching, as well as some of the important and emerging contemporary issues in preaching.

 

Course outcome

At the end of the course the students will be able to:

 

  1. Reflect theologically on the academic and ministerial contexts of preaching.

 

  1. Integrate learning from theological disciplines in order to craft a coherent and cogent biblical-based preaching.

 

  1. Analyze one’s own work and that of the other preachers in theological, rhetorical, and pastoral terms.

 

  1. Exhibit sensitivity to and knowledge of the multicultural realities of contemporary ministry.
